The Unus Annus Challenge

On November 13, 2019 Mark Fischbach (AKA Markiplier) and Ethan Nestor-Darling launched a YouTube channel titled Unus Annus. With this channel, they committed to posting a new video every single day for one year. For the next 365 days, even through the craziness of a global pandemic that forced them to be apart for several weeks, they did what they said they were going to do and posted a new video.

What can you take from this idea to improve your performance? Is there some area of your game that you want to improve? If so, is there something you can do each and every day, for 365 days to improve that aspect of your game? Just imagine how much advancement you will make in this area with a full year commitment to working on it!

Here are some examples:

  • Need to improve that free throw percentage? Commit to making 25 free throws each and every day for one year.

  • Need to improve your flexibility for dance? Commit to stretching for at least 15 minutes every day for 365 days straight.

  • Need to improve your explosiveness off the block for track? Commit to practicing this start 10 times a day, every day, for 52 straight weeks.

  • Need to improve your upper body strength for swim? Commit to doing 50 or more push-ups every day for a year.

  • Need to improve your accuracy for lacrosse? Set up a small lacrosse goal target and hit it from 12 different distances and angles for 365 days straight.

A word of caution as you are selecting your unus annus task – be sure it is something you will be able to do no matter what….

  • Rainy or snowy day? You still got to do it.

  • Got a cold or the flu? You still got to do it.

  • Christmas or Thanksgiving Day? You still got to do it.

  • On vacation? You still got to do it.

So pick your unus annus task and begin today!
