Nature Focus

I love the Spring! Ideal temperatures, bright green grass, trees budding, flowers blooming and being able to finally get outside after a long winter.

All the natural things going on in Spring provides a great opportunity to develop our Mindfulness skills and strengthen our ability to focus. How so? Well, try out this exercise.

The next time you are outside, find one aspect of your natural environment that you can focus on completely. This could be…

  • The petals of a flower

  • The buds of a tree

  • A squirrel, bird or other animal

  • A cloud moving across the sky

  • The smell of freshly cut grass

  • The warm sun on your skin

Once you have something picked out, focus 100% of your attention on it. Pretend like you and whatever it is you selected are the only things in the world. Study all the aspects of it.

As with all Mindfulness practices, your mind will likely wander from whatever it is you are focusing on. As soon as you notice that your mind has wandered, don’t get upset with yourself. Simply allow that thought to float out of your head and go back to your point of focus.

This combination of being in nature and taking your mind off regrets of the past or worries of the future can be an incredibly powerful tool for your health and well-being.

Try this out today!
