A Thanksgiving Gratitude Meditation

Thanksgiving is a great time to start a consistent practice of gratitude.

This is something you may wish to do:

  • In the morning to start your day on a positive note; or

  • At the end of the day to ensure positive thoughts are in your consciousness as you drift off to sleep; or

  • In the middle of the day to help center yourself on those particularly rough days when nothing seems to be going right.

There are many ways to do a gratitude meditation but a simple one is to start with the focus on the inhale and exhale of your breath.  Once you have done this 5-10 times, begin to be thankful for your breath and then expand out from there.  On each exhale, mentally express gratitude for the people, places, and experiences in your life.  From the little things, like running water, to the big things, like the love of your family.  Even express thanks for the struggles in your life because of the lessons you learn and the growth that takes place from these experiences.

You can choose to focus on one thing for the entire meditation or pick a different thing to be thankful for on each and every outbreath.

Gratitude is a cornerstone of a fulfilled and happy life.  Taking the time to consciously express thanks for all the wonderful blessings in your life, both big and small, will lead to more and more of them in the days to come.

Happy Thanksgiving!
