“The key to success and the key to failure – We become what we think about.” This statement is from Earl Nightingale’s The Strangest Secret which is one of the best-selling personal development recordings of all time. It has sold millions of copies.
Why has it been so successful? Because of the truth of the message and the positive impact that message has had on millions of people’s lives.
In the recording, Earl goes on to provide examples of wise men throughout history that have come to the same realization including:
Marcus Aurelius – “A man’s life is what his thoughts make of it.”
William James – “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.”
And from Mark 9:23 – “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
An important thing to note about Earl’s speech is what he says just before he tells us we become what we think about. He says this is both the key to success and the key to failure. Why is it the key to both? Because our thoughts can be both positive or negative. If we have positive thoughts our results will be positive - i.e. success. If we have negative thoughts our results will be negative – i.e. failure.
I ask you then, what are you thinking about? As you go about your day are your thoughts mostly positive (the key to success) or negative (the key to failure)?
The challenge I have for you is for one week to think positive – all the time. This will not be easy, believe me, I have tried it! Do your best though, and don’t get frustrated if you struggle with this.
Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, immediately replace it with a positive thought. All week long continue to think about great health and wealth, rewarding relationships, abundant happiness and whatever else you have defined as success in your life.
Wishing you success in all aspects of life,
