A colleague of mine (Thanks Natalie!) shared a video from the finals of America’s Got Talent of Philadelphia Eagles football player Jon Dorenbos. She said she thought of me during the first 40 seconds of his intro in which he talks about his mental preparation. Watch that beginning part of the clip below. And if you have time, watch the whole thing. He has a great inspirational message as he is performing his magic.
The more I watch, read and learn about the most successful people who have ever lived, the more I find that many of them used some sort of visualization exercise to help them reach these optimum levels of performance and success.
Take the greatest basketball player of all time for instance. When asked about how he was able to achieve greatness, Michael Jordan once said…
“I visualized where I wanted to be, what kind of player I wanted to become. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, and I focused on getting there.”
Where do you want to be? What kind of “player” do you want to become?
Take 10-20 minutes this week to think about the one thing that is most important to you – great health, rewarding relationships, financial independence, etc. Write down exactly what that one thing will look like when you have achieved it. Then, for the next 30 days, read that description and visualize yourself as having already achieved that goal each day. After that, focus on getting there by taking one small step each of those 30 days in the direction of that goal.
These actions don’t need to cost you a lot of money or much time at all. By just making a daily commitment to (1) review and visualize your goal and (2) take a small step toward that goal, you will develop the habits and mindset you need to make it a reality in your life.
Wishing you success in all aspects of life,
