Need a Reason to Exercise?  Here are 19

Continuing to share some of the information I found most valuable from the Mind Body Medicine Conference in October, I want to provide some additional information from Edward Phillips, MD.  He outlined the plethora of benefits to exercise…
 
There is strong evidence that exercise lowers the risk of:
1. Early death
2. Colon cancer
3. Coronary heart disease
4. Breast cancer
5. Stroke
6. T2 Diabetes
7. High blood pressure
 
There is also strong evidence that exercise
8. Prevents weight gain
9. Leads to weight loss, particularly when combined with reduced calorie intake
10. Increases cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness
11. Prevents falls
12. Decreases depression
13. Increases cognitive function (for older adults)
 
There is a moderate amount of evidence that it reduces the risk of
14. Hip fracture
15. Lung cancer
16. Endometrial cancer
 
And finally, there is a moderate amount of evidence that exercise
17. Maintains weight after weight loss
18. Increases bone density
19. Increases sleep quality
 
Well, that is a whole lot of reasons to add exercise to your weekly routine!  This next week be sure to incorporate just a bit more physical activity into your life and, if you continue to do it consistently, you will likely reap many of these benefits!
