Last week I mentioned a few of the benefits kids may gain from meditation and provided you with a sample meditation you can use with them. This week let me highlight one of the recent studies on this topic that took place in British Columbia with 4th and 5th graders and was published in the journal Developmental Psychology.
The study took place over 4 months. During the study one group of students received a mindfulness program while the other group received the standard social responsibility program that is used in Canadian public schools.
An article in Time Magazine sums up the results…
“Compared to the kids in the social responsibility program, children with the mindful intervention had 15% better math scores, showed 24% more social behaviors, were 24% less aggressive and perceived themselves as 20% more prosocial. They outperformed their peers in cognitive control, stress levels, emotional control, optimism, empathy, mindfulness and aggression.”
So there are many more reasons to periodically have your children join you when you perform your daily mind body practice.
Wishing you success in all aspects of life,
