This past weekend the great group of people pictured here joined us for the first offering of the workshop Dear Stress: It’s Not You, It’s Me – A one-day workshop on breaking up with toxic stress.

During the workshop the participants learned about the harmful effects stress has on both the mind and body.  They also learned about and had an opportunity to practice a variety of techniques they can implement into their lives to counteract that stress – meditation, mindfulness, yoga, exercise, etc.

I enjoy these workshops tremendously because of the wonderful people I get to meet and the helpful things I learn from the other presenters as well as the participants.  My favorite tip from this workshop was “The Apple Test.”

This tip comes from Nutritionist and Dietician Jesse Rusch (MS, RD, LDN).  The apple test is her advice on how to determine if you are really hungry or if you just want to eat due to boredom or stress.

To complete the apple test, the next time you are hungry think to yourself, if someone gave me an apple right now would I eat it?
  • If the answer is yes, then your body probably does need the nutrients and you should go ahead and eat.
  • If the answer is no, then you are probably feeling hungry due to boredom or stress and should probably pass on eating at this time.

Try out the apple test the next time are feeling hungry.

Wishing you success in all aspects of life,
