A couple weeks ago I had an opportunity to experience for myself the incredible power of the mind-body connection at Tony Robbin’s Unleash the Power Within seminar. It was an unbelievable four days of personal growth and transformation! One of the best experiences of the weekend was the fire walk.
The seminar started on Thursday at about 1pm. Tony walked us through many beneficial techniques, spending the majority of the time getting our minds and bodies in “state.” Being in state was essential for a safe walk across the fire that didn’t result in the charring of the soles of our feet.
Finally at about 1:00am we were ready. We walked outside to the pits of burning hot coals. Tony had given us specific instructions, one of which was to not look down, as the sight of the red hot coals may throw our thinking off resulting in dangerous consequences.
I am waiting in line, trying to stay as calm as I possibly could. As I get to the front of the line a woman on Tony’s team grabs me and tells me to wait. I am looking up in the air so I do not see the coals as Tony instructed. Unfortunately though, as I am standing there waiting I notice out of the corner of my eye that another woman with a bandana around her face is digging into a wheelbarrow full of red hot burning coals with sparks flying from them. As she digs them out she places the hot fresh coals on the pit I am about to walk on! I start to freak out but then remember the importance of staying in state in order to stay safe.
After a few moments the woman holding me back tells me to go. I do exactly as Tony had instructed and walk slowly and safely across the hot burning coals. Amazingly, it simply felt like I was walking on smooth cool rocks.
To understand how incredible this feat was, let me put it in perspective. Have you ever stepped barefoot onto a hot blacktop driveway on a sunny summer day? If you have you more than likely jumped as quickly as possible to the cool grass. Any guesses how hot that driveway was? Well, I recently read that the temperature of a driveway can get to over 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
The temperature of the coals that I walked over however wasbetween 1,200-2,000 degrees Fahrenheit!
After celebrating hysterically at what I had just accomplished, I simply stood there in amazement of the incredible powers of the mind-body connection.
Wishing you success in all aspects of life,
