What makes us happy? A 2011 documentary entitled Happy explored this topic and provided a number of ways to increase our happiness and well-being. I watched this interesting documentary a couple of weeks ago and only three days later a friend of mine just happened to forward me a link to a Ted Talk by the writer and director of the documentary, Roko Belic.
In this talk Roko discusses the importance of relationships and compassion to overall happiness. Then he discusses a type of meditation on compassion and loving-kindness which not only has a great impact on your happiness and health but, with just two weeks of practicing this type of meditation, the participants in one study experienced physical changes to the size of the part of the brain that relates to happiness.
